Augusta Prep senior Kho named National Merit semifinalist

Augusta Prep senior Aidan Kho has been named a National Merit Scholarship program semifinalist for the 2026-2027 school year. Kho is in the running for a National Merit Scholarship, which will be announced later in the school year.
Aidan's PSAT/NMSQT score is among the top 1 percent of the nation’s highest scorers. According to nationalmerit.org, more than 1 million students participate in this program each year.

Later in the 2026-2027 school year, a smaller number of these students will be named National Merit Finalists, and then an even smaller number of Finalists will be announced as National Merit Scholarship recipients.

This past summer, Kho was one of three Augusta Prep students accepted into the Georgia Governor's Honors Program. More than 4,000 students throughout the state were nominated for this program, with 600 to 700 students selected, representing the top 1 percent of Georgia high school students. This is the first time Augusta Prep has had more than one student selected in a single year for this program.

To qualify, a student must be a sophomore or junior who has demonstrated high aptitude and high interest in one area of nomination. Experience can be determined based off schoolwork, standardized test scores, or extracurricular activities outside of the typical classroom environment.

The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (https://gosa.georgia.gov/governors-honors-program) is held every summer (mid-June to mid-July) as a residential educational experience on a college or university campus. Students attend classes in the mornings and afternoons in specific areas of study, and they participate in a wide variety of social and instructional opportunities every evening. Meals and rooms are provided by the program. The only required and expected costs to the students are: travel expenses to and from the semifinalist event and host campus; a few basic supplies for classes and dorm rooms; and spending money as desired during the program.
